Project summary
SD169: This extension project is in two parts. The
first stage will extend the existing project to a third Aboriginal
community (the Davenport Community near Port Augusta) in South
Australia’s arid regions, engaging the community in
responding to the National Water Initiative (NWI) with a specific
focus on water conservation and the implications of a ‘user
pays’ system for water service delivery. The second stage of
the project focuses on dissemination of the research findings by
bringing together major research organisations and other
stakeholders.
SD115: An analysis of differences in access and
equity to domestic water supplies for Aboriginal families in South
Australia living in a range of rural situations: towns, communities
and outstations.
Summary
of project implementation
SD169: Water service delivery and changing
household water use and state and Commonwealth water reform
objectives—a response from Aboriginal communities in South
Australia.
- Production of a report for
each community and partners that outlines a possible
response by Aboriginal communities to the NWI.
- One community has already
achieved a Water Smart Grant to increase rainwater
harvesting.
-
SD115: Identification of access and equity
issues governing domestic water charges to Indigenous families in
rural South Australia.
Production of a report for
the community of Copley to use as the basis for applying for Water
Smart Grants
