Alastair came to the CRC for Aboriginal Health after four years working as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission Public Affairs Manager for northern and western Queensland. Prior to that he was Communications Manager at the Apunipima Cape York Health Council for four years.

He started his working life in the building and construction industry and was an organiser with the Builders Labourers Federation for eight years before studying as a journalist and working for the ABC, SBS Television and the Townsville Bulletin. He has provided media advice to a number of community-based organisations including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, South Sea Islander groups, trade unions, and environmental organisations, and was media adviser to then-Senator Aden Ridgeway.

Alastair was instrumental in developing and implementing the CRCAH Communication Strategy.
